nOCD is an app that is designed to effectively combat OCD, and in my case, it’s been superlatively effective. I remember listing down all of my OCD compulsive actions and thoughts in a journal, and listening to a tape to become “exposed” to my thoughts/fears.
Eventually, as you all know, the journal gets lost, you get tired of listening to that tape over and over again, and the whole detrimental cycle repeats itself. You travel an hour away to visit your therapist, and your not able to provide accurate data on the progress or stagnation you’ve faced in your EPR treatment.
That’s where nOCD comes into play. It understands the severity of your OCD level by taking the YBOCS test (Yale-Brown Obsessive Compulsive Disorder Scale). It customizes your plan by filling out the hierarchies, and it finally develops mental exercises following ERP prompts and and tools in the plan.
Eventually, I didn’t even need a therapist. I practically had a mobile app that was able to accurately assess my weaknesses and progress in my own ERP therapy. I didn’t even need therapy anymore! I remember making hour trips to my psychologist, feeling unfulfilled when we left, like there was a missing key in our progress. Now, I have a mini therapist by my side, whenever I’m in need.
